Did His Divorce Really Go Through?

Birth, death, marriage, divorce, and adoption records are handled by the state where these events occurred. Laws vary from place to place about access and availability. The National Center for Health Statistics has an online publication titled Where to Write for Vital Records available at http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/w2w.htm . This publication goes state-by-state providing details of what records are available to the general public, those available only to specific people, and the fees involved in obtaining copies of these records.

For instance, in Alabama birth certificates are confidential records with restricted access for 125 years from the date of birth, but may be obtained by specific people. Adoptees born in Alabama seeking original birth certificates may obtain informational copies of their original birth certificates upon reaching the age of 19. By Alabama law, divorce certificates are not confidential and may be obtained by any individual upon payment of the proper fee. Death certificates are confidential records with restricted access for 25 years from the date of death. Death certificates more than 25 years old may be obtained by anyone upon payment of the proper fee. Marriage certificates are not confidential and may be obtained by any individual upon payment of the proper fee. This was always a major concern of my grandmother. Old Census records can provide a wealth of information. Census data starts in 1790 and can get you started on your family tree. From 1850 to 1930, details are provided for all individuals in each household, such as:

their state or country of birth

their parent's birthplaces

year of immigration

street address

marriage status and years of marriage

occupation(s)

value of their home and personal belongings

the crops that they grew

Tracing your family history has been made much easier with the creation of the American Immigration Family History Center at Ellis Island. Once you get to the website at http://www.ellisisland.org/ all you need to do is register by creating a user name and password, then you can conduct searches of Passenger Arrival Records. By simply entering in a last name, you will find all the names from ship passenger logs that match. The passenger's name, country of origin, age, and date of arrival are shown to help you create your family tree. If desired, you can purchase copies of the original ship manifest, ship photographs, and passenger record certificates online. It couldn't be easier! The State Department of Motor Vehicles in most states can help your search with public information from driver's license and car registration forms. You will need to provide them with the person's full name, date of birth, and maybe the person's driver's license number. You may also need to put your request in writing, and there might be a fee for this service. Your State's Department of Motor Vehicles is in your state's capitol. Information accessibility varies from state to state, so you need to find out what information your state will provide.

Find A Military Man/Woman

Requests for military addresses should be sent to the respective service of the individual whose address is being sought. Because of the large volume of requests that each service locator receives, please allow four weeks processing time for written requests. The following information is needed for all requests for all locator services:

* Give as much identifying information as possible about the person you wish to locate such as full name, rank, last duty assignment/last known military address, service number, and Social Security number.

"A Hot Dog" Is Just One Of The Names People Called Me In My ??? Suit

From time to time I get asked a question that can’t be answered with a simple yes or no. This happened at the annual Affiliate Summit West conference in Las Vegas, where vendors of all stripes gather to network and attend educational sessions on the latest industry issues and trends.

Like many other attendees at the conference I was “put to the question” by Rob “The HotDogMan” Merlino, who owns a spiffy hot dog vending franchise and posts one of the few blogs on a hotdogs: The Hot Dog Truck (Hot Doggin’ and Bloggin’ since 2004).

HotDogMan: “Do you like ketchup on your hot dog?”

I know probably nine out of ten people do, but I don’t. So I was taken off guard for a second. What were the ramifications of my response? Would I be making a statement against ketchup? A statement against people that like ketchup on their hot dogs? A diplomatic answer eluded me, but my momentary hesitation was captured on video where I allegedly I “slipped out of character,” according to Merlino.

Back from Affiliate Summit Las Vegas

I just got back from Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas, the largest affiliate marketing conference in the U.S., and everywhere I went people recognized me. It’s truly is a place where anything’s possible.

Fortunately, attracting attention seems to be my strong suit. More people than ever recognized me and were excited about our new offers. I must have been in over 200 pictures with other people. What did we do before cell phones had cameras?

There were representatives of companies pretty much everything in the way of products and services, and judging by the noise level there’s a lot of mileage left in the economy.

I continue to be amazed how well people react to me since I started wearing these suits covered with question marks. It’s made my life so much fun. Whenever I get blue and need to cheer up, all I have to do is get dressed walk down the street. The suit seems to make people smile whether they know me or not. And just seeing kids and grown-ups smile raises my spirits like nothing else can. I just wish I started wearing these suits 40 years ago!

I know writers want to create clever copy, and I am a widely recognized “go-to” name for a quick reference - but it is clear that you are looser with the facts than Mitt Romney.

For the past 30 years I have maintained a database of 17,000 government programs, - all information from public documents. I am simply trying to show taxpayers the programs that were put into law by politicians like Mitt Romney and others. 'Business Insider' Blog Gets FREE MONEY Wrong

This morning I was mentioned on Business Insider in a guest blog post by David Bakke -- 11 Indispensable Financial Principles.

In the post, he unfoundedly cites my name alongside a warning against Get-Rich-Quick schemes, stating: "That’s why guys like Matthew Lesko show up on your TV at 3 a.m.. He screams about getting 'free money,' but unfortunately there’s no such thing."

David Bakke’s failure to understand my free money message makes me assume he has not taken the time to investigate any of my work and ultimately, his statement is unfair and misleading. If he had spent a little more time researching he would see that I profess that hard work is vital for any success and equally important to me is teaching people how take advantage of government programs that can help them avoid spending money on services that are available free. And yes, there are programs with money to help small businesses get off the ground, but like diet books, reading one and not doing the work is pointless.

Jogging and Learning Chinese – My Alzheimer’s Prevention Program

Jogging and Learning Chinese

Here is a photo of me jogging and studying Chinese. Alas, always multi-tasking, but research has shown that in order to retain its youthful circuitry the brain, like the body, needs exercise as we age. So rather than buying a Rubik’s cube or memorizing equations that might prove helpful in quantum mechanics, I’m studying Chinese. And the best thing is that these classes are part of a government language program subsidized by the Chinese Government.

For Christmas this year, we invited my Chinese teacher and his wife and mother-in-law. Secretly, I had an agenda – I’m worried about passing the class, even though it is a non-credit course). Ni hao ma!

Yes it’s difficult, but I’m learning. And it is so much fun realizing the difficulty of learning something so foreign (at least to me), given that China may soon overtake us as the world's largest economy.

As it becomes more difficult to find investors, many entrepreneurs are turning to

special social networking sites to help raise money for new projects. Called

crowdfunding, these sites provide an internet platform where friends, family

members and even total strangers can donate money to help you fund your

start up.

It works like this: you pitch your project proposal on paper and in a video to one of the many crowdfunding sites out there. They then feature your idea, on their website to heighten the exposure you need to get the funding. You then spread the word through all forms of social media available, as well as all the email contacts you and your friends may have.

Many of the crowdfunding sites have a small fee if you make your project financial goal – and a larger fee if you do not make your goal but are still allowed to keep the funding. The idea is that it will make you set a reasonable goal to achieve.

In almost all cases, you offer your donors a prize or incentive for donating to your cause – tickets to your play or your movie, product samples, a thank you in the liner notes of your CD – to give a few examples. Each of the following crowdfunding sites offers tips and strategies to make your project a success.

1. Kickstarter claims to be “the largest funding platform for creative projects in the world. Every week, tens of thousands of amazing people pledge millions of dollars to projects from the worlds of music, film, art, technology, design, food, publishing and other creative fields.” A caveat is that the project must reach its funding goal before any money is actually exchanged. For your donations to the projects you often get product samples, tickets to the show or movie, copies of CDs, which are all dependent upon your donation level. You cannot use Kickstarter to fund a charity, cause, or to just pay your bills. They have guidelines and even a Kickstarter school. If you meet your goal, there is a 5% fee charged by Kickstarter. 3. FansNextdoor is a free European Crowd-funding service where you can promote your project online. Funds are deposited into a PayPal account and once you have reached your goal, the funds are transferred. http://en.fansnextdoor.com/

4. Gen Y Capital works as an early stage venture accelerator for young entrepreneurs. If your project is accepted they will pay your student loan debt for up to three years, allow you to live on college campuses for two years taking advantage of the school’s business courses, and provide peer mentorship throughout. 5. IndieGoGo provides a platform where you can raise funding for your project. 6. MicroVentures Marketplace targets certain technologies, services, and products. You submit your proposal and $100 and the team reviews your idea. Matthew Lesko in Town for Niemann-Pick Foundation Vegas Night

I had a great time with http://www.glittarazzi.com/ talking with the people at Occupy DC. The most amazing thing was how POLITE every one was. No screaming "Left or Right Wingers" there.

The occupiers are something to pay attention to. Over 43% of the country support them and 58% of Americans say they are “furious" about American politics. And these numbers are climbing.

My feeling is, that if we have about 50% of the country so pissed that they are spending all their energy trying to get the system changed, than this is talent that is not being used to produce the goods, services and ideas our country needs to continue our leadership role in the world. If people feel the system is rigged against them, they are certainly not going to contribute their talents to make the current system grow. And that could be close to 50% of our country.

It's not about ideology, it's about problems and solving them and it does not matter where the answers comes from. We are at a point in our development that we have to listen to all new ideas. What we are doing now is certainly not workin' out too well for us.

Call me a plagierist or a pragmatist, but my first best seller was a cut and paste job.

I’ve built a long career pitching books on free government programs and services, but admit that I lift most of the info directly from Uncle Sam.

In my new documentary, “The Gospel According to Matthew,” http://lesko.com/Gospel.php I reveal that I “didn’t write a lick” of my first best seller; I lifted the whole thing from government publications and slapped a cover on it.

“My first New York Times bestseller Getting Yours was a book where I plagierized the whole thing, except nothing in the government is copyrighted. I just went to the Government Printing Office, bought the state book for $35, and cut and pasted it into different chapters and changed the titles of all the programs.

Then I took it to a major publisher and was soon on all of the news shows.

Government Grant Money Takes the Sting Out of Shots

I recently interviewed Dr. Amy Baxter - a pediatrician and a mother. But she’s also an inventor and a small business owner who tapped into a government grant program - SBIR for developing innovative health products and developing a business after she discovered a way to take the sting out of shots – especially for kids.

In an interview, she said her Eureka moment happened after driving home with the wheels of her car out of alignment. Realizing that her hands were numb, Dr. Baxter wondered if applying vibration to the site of an injection might also deaden pain. She tried it, but it wasn’t quite right. So her husband suggested adding cold as well, so she tried a hand vibrator with a frozen pack of peas. Viola!

Such a simple insight led to the development of Buzzy, a hand-held device shaped like a bumblebee that is placed just above an injection site. It kills needle stick pain by mounting an icy preemptive attack on the same nervous system pathway that carries other pain to the brain, effectively blocking out any additional signals.

“There’s something called gate theory, where cold, motion and pain all try to fit through the same passage, but the gate is only big to let two of them through. So applying ice and vibration essentially shuts the gate on needle stick pain,” she explained.

Once she was satisfied that Buzzy did the job, she needed a grant to develop and market it. Fortunately, the government makes millions of dollars available through its “innovative research grant” program for developing health-related products. Her state small business development office also helped her set up her small business - MMJ Labs.

If you have children who hate getting immunized or need to take insulin, this is an excellent investment. But a lot of grown-ups need this too, according to Dr. Baxter. A whopping 22 percent of adults admit staying away from doctors because they don’t like needles. So she’s developed an adult version too, which looks more like a garage door opener than a bee. But maybe she would have better luck making it look like a cell phone.

Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the clamor of Washington politics, especially
when presidential campaigns start building up steam. Which brings me to the question,

or rather the observation, that most politicians are myopic. They only see what’s right in
front of them instead of what’s around the bend.

Case in point: During an interview last Friday with Lauren Lyster on RT America, she asked me to

comment on back-to-back clips of House Speaker Republican John Boehner and former
Jimmy Carter's campaign manager James Carville. Surprising, these polar opposite ideologues
appeared to agree that President Obama should start firing anyone on his staff who is not
concentrating on creating new jobs.

But they both missed the point. We don’t just need new jobs. That’s the quick fix.
What we really need is a more competitive workforce – today, tomorrow and twenty years
from now.

The government will pay $8,000 to help unemployed workers get training in a new career.
One that had some legs and will carry them, and the U.S., competitively into the future.
Panic-spending to create new jobs is a waste if the longer view is ignored.

So my advice to politicians, either those in power and those who want a seat at the table is simply
this: Please get an eye exam as soon as possible. If you’re having trouble seeing distances,

That’s just the average amount each household would qualify for under various programs in President Obama’s proposed American Jobs Act. The Jobs Act would pump $447 billion into the economy to help small businesses increase hiring, while providing extra money to improve and increase benefits and services for the unemployed and under-employed. President Obama’s proposed American Jobs Act would make billions of dollars available to individuals and small businesses to jump-start the nation’s stalled employment engine. Although not yet law, the smart money says get the information you need now in order to be first in line with your application if the plan does get the green light.

If the law goes into effect, here’s information on a few of exciting provisions and where to learn more.

The most innovative changes in the proposal are work-based reforms to prevent layoffs and giving states greater flexibility to use unemployment insurance funds to support job seekers and reduce lay-offs through work-sharing programs. The idea is to keep workers on the job with fewer hours while providing unemployment benefits to make up for the smaller paychecks.

The “Bridge to Work” program also would build on and improve state programs providing funds from unemployment coffers for temporary or voluntary work, or for workers pursuing on-the-job training. States will also be able to implement wage insurance to help re-employ older workers, as well as fund programs to help unemployed workers start their own businesses.

Veterans would get special hiring consideration under the plan’s “Returning Heroes” tax credit for hiring recent veterans. Mohammad Atta, the leader of the 911 terrorists, saw one of my commercials –bought my book and walked into a USDA office in Homestead, Florida, looking for free money to buy a small crop dusting plane more than a year before the World Trade Center attacks.

It turned out that he was eligible, but didn’t get the money simply because he had a poor business plan, according to a chilling special report by ABC’s Peter Jennings and his colleagues that aired in 2002.

The investigation team interviewed a USDA worker at the Florida office who reported her confrontation with the terrorist leader to the FBI just after she after she saw his face in the news following the 9/11 attacks.
